Agra Wool International Group from The Netherlands is worldwide known for their substrates and water-absorbing natural rock wool products for growers. After extensive testing of the product’s density, Agra Wool developed Sideau® in 2018, a product that has the same characteristics as traditional floral foam in terms of use.
Unlike floral foam, which is made from oil derivatives and phenol resin (plastic), Sideau® is natural. Therefore, Sideau® is perfectly suited for florists and flower arrangers who want to use a fully environmentally friendly base for their creations.
Sideau® is made of natural rock wool, a natural product derived from basalt, a volcanic igneous rock. It is bound with a natural binder made from sugar beet or sugar cane, which gives Sideau® its characteristic brown color. During production, the material is heated and caramelized, resulting in a soft yet dense structure.
The binder used in Sideau®’s natural rock wool is made from a by-stream of sugar beet or sugar cane, and its production requires 70% less energy than traditional yellow rock wool. Sideau® is soft yet dense, odorless, water-safe, and crumb-free, making it easy to handle and fully environmentally friendly.
The name Sideau® comes from the first name of the owner of Agra Wool, Sido, combined with the French words “Si” and “d’Eau”, reflecting one of its main features: it absorbs and holds water exceptionally well, even better than traditional floral foam.
Sideau® is set to transform the world of environmentally conscious florists and flower arrangers as a natural floral foam alternative.
